The people behind our community care.

Our People

Staff, Management, Board, and Patron – Working Together

Staff, Management, the Board, and our Patron all work together to ensure the Launceston Benevolent Society remains an effective, well‑run organisation. Each group plays a vital role, and together we strive for the betterment of our community and the achievement of our mission.

The Board provides overall governance, strategic direction, and high‑level oversight. The Management and staff team bring that direction to life through day‑to‑day operations, service delivery, and community engagement. Our Patron brings compassion, visibility, and advocacy, helping ensure the Society remains front‑of‑mind within the community and among those who wish to support our work.

Together, we form a unified team committed to dignity, care, and positive outcomes for the people we serve.

Our vision
is simple

To make life a little easier when times are tough. By offering essentials like food, clothing, and household goods at no cost, we help free up your resources so you can take care of other important needs, like paying bills or keeping the lights on.

VOLUNTEERS

Volunteering is about more than just giving your time — it’s about making a real difference, connecting with others, and being part of something bigger. Along the way, you’ll meet new people, share your skills, and know that what you’re doing is changing lives right here in our community.

Volunteering is about more than just giving your time — it’s about making a real difference, connecting with others, and being part of something bigger. Along the way, you’ll meet new people, share your skills, and know that what you’re doing is changing lives right here in our community.

The Launceston Benevolent Society has always been powered by volunteers. We’re proud to have around 40 incredible people who, together, contribute over 100,000 hours of their time each year. Their passion and dedication are at the heart of everything we do.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life — community members, local businesses, and corporate partners — all bringing their skills, energy, and kindness to help thousands of families doing it tough. Simply put, without them, much of our work wouldn’t be possible.

Volunteer Stories

“Mark” came in this week; he had been laid off from his work and needed help feeding his wife and 2 children. Very embarrassed that he had to come to come for help. But very happy that he did, as he left with not only food but some warm jackets for his children.

“Edith’s” washing machine had broken down and did not have the funds to purchase a new one. She had been hand washing for 3 weeks, with 4 kids this took up a lot of her time.  A friend recommended she reaches out to us. Luckily we were able to assist, and had one delivered to her within a week. A very happy Edith.

Give your time. Give hope.

and we’d be honoured to have you on the team.

If you’d like to join our team of everyday heroes, we’d love to hear from you.
