Here’s how
we can help.
Working Together to Support Our Community
At the Launceston Benevolent Society, we believe that no single organisation can meet every need on its own. By working closely with other community agencies, we ensure that support reaches as many people as possible across Northern Tasmania.
People donate their goods to help those who are struggling, and we honour that generosity by making sure every item goes directly to someone who needs it. If we receive a donation that doesn’t suit one of our own clients, we reach out to our partner organisations to find the right home for it. Nothing is wasted, and every contribution makes a real difference.
We do our very best to support every client who comes through our doors. When someone requires assistance beyond what we can provide directly, we ensure they are linked with the appropriate agencies who can support their broader needs. Our focus is always on making sure each person receives the right help, at the right time, from the right service.

Our Bread Run Program
Every weekday, the Launceston Benevolent Society collects surplus bread and pastry items from local supermarkets as part of our Bread Run Program. This daily effort ensures that good food never goes to waste and reaches the people in our community who need it most.
Once the items arrive at our centre, our volunteers:
Nothing is wasted. Any surplus is delivered to 17 community agencies across Launceston, helping them support their own clients with much needed food relief.
The Bread Run is one of the simplest yet most impactful ways we support people experiencing hardship, homelessness, or financial stress. By working together with supermarkets, volunteers, and partner organisations, we ensure that fresh food is shared widely and reaches as many people as possible.
Client Stories
“Mark” came in this week; he had been laid off from his work and needed help feeding his wife and 2 children. Very embarrassed that he had to come to come for help. But very happy that he did, as he left with not only food but some warm jackets for his children.
“Edith’s” washing machine had broken down and did not have the funds to purchase a new one. She had been hand washing for 3 weeks, with 4 kids this took up a lot of her time. A friend recommended she reaches out to us. Luckily we were able to assist, and had one delivered to her within a week. A very happy Edith.
